Wilbur (David Whillas)

Wilbur commenced his AFL football journey as a junior in the Northern Metropolitan Football League with Paramount FC before progressing through senior football at Carlton, (VFL), Claremont (WAFL), and VFA clubs Brunswick and Williamstown. In 1995, at the age of 35, he joined the Diamond Valley Super Rules Football Club, making an immediate impact during a highly successful period for the club. DVSRFC secured three consecutive premierships in 1995, 1996, and 1997, with his experience and leadership playing a key role in the on-field success. Transitioning from player to coach, Wilbur moved into coaching roles within DVSRFC, taking charge of the Over 55s side from 2024 to current. Wilbur also stepped up as the “Caretaker coach” of our Over 35s team whilst coaching the Over 55s during the 2025 season. Wilbur’s coaching approach is grounded in strong football fundamentals, player development, and fostering a positive, competitive team culture built on experience and respect for the game. Wilbur is widely respected and is highly regarded as one of DVSRFC’s greatest clubmen.
