Masters

Coach: Simon Kayrooz

Captain: Chris Shoolman

Coaches Bio

Having arrived at the club as a full forward in 2013, Simon Kayrooz (Roozy) enjoyed Premiership success with the DV Supers in his inaugural season.

70 plus games and 60 odd goals later, Roozy called time on his playing days and took up the reins as coach of the Masters in 2017.

Whilst he didn’t emulate his feat as a player in his first season as coach, Roozy would only have to wait two more years for his boys to salute by winning the 2019 Premiership Cup. This was an obvious highlight in his career, but Roozy rates the development of the culture of his team

as just an important milestone.

“They (Masters) are the tightest knit group I’ve ever been associated with during my time in football. And the bond the boys have developed over the years is as big an achievement as our Premiership” Roozy

added.

For season 2022, Roozy’s direction for his team hasn’t wavered.

“After two interrupted seasons (through covid) we want the boys to simply enjoy their footy and for us to rebuild the strong comradery and family values that made us a great football team.” Needless to say, on the field, Coach Roozy believes the Masters do have the cattle to give the 2022 Premiership a real nudge.

Before setting foot at Shelly Park, Roozy was an accomplished footballer in his own right who was well known for his great leap and good pair of hands.

He started his football journey with Banyule and by the time he was 16, he was playing senior football for the club on a regular basis. As a forward who loved kicking goals, his finest hour on the footy field arrived when he snagged 12 goals against rival Bulleen/Templestowe in the Under 16’s.

He would go on to represent Banyule for a further 15 years, retiring at the ripe age of 31.

And if his goalkicking exploits weren’t enough to earn him bragging rights within the Kayrooz household, his other claim to fame was when at 11 years of age, he was crowned ‘Northern Districts Yoyo

Champion’. And the prize? A slab of Coke!

Outside footy, Roozy works as a Business Development Manager for Meir Tapware. He is a genuine family man who loves spending time with the family and watching his two boys (Harvie 11, & Reeve 9) play footy and soccer.
